California's legal cannabis production has increased each of the past few years but the price per wholesale pound has dropped from $1.377 in 2020 to $721 in 2024. A comprehensive state-commissioned report explains more on the market. Mexican and Chinese drug traffickers have been smuggling fentanyl by exploiting the "de minimis" trade loophole, which allows low-value shipments to bypass US inspections. Trump shut it down briefly in February but it created chaos of backlogged orders at customs so they are re-evaluating. In Switzerland, a pilot program with 7,000 adult-use cannabis users showed lower-risk consumption, and the country is moving toward legalizing recreational cannabis through a state-controlled system, allowing adults to cultivate up to three plants for personal use. That would be awesome if the Swiss were known for banks, watches, and weed. ;)
